Bai Xingluo returned to the room and gently placed Tong Sui on the bed, covering him with a thin blanket before sitting beside him, lost in thought as she watched the peacefully sleeping Tong Sui.
In reality, during the mecha’s empathic connection, she detected that something else seemed to exist within Tong Sui’s mind. However, that entity had a very high level of protective mechanism, which did not give her a chance to decode it. Would the Male Protagonist know of its existence?
Tong Sui, asleep, was completely defenseless. If Bai Xingluo wanted to find answers, she could release her spiritual power now and probe again when the Male Protagonist’s consciousness was at its weakest. But Bai Xingluo chose not to do so. Whatever that thing was, she trusted the Male Protagonist. Perhaps this thing was something he couldn’t or didn’t want to disclose.
She gently brushed aside the stray hair on Tong Sui’s forehead and leaned down to place a soft kiss on it. This was the Male Protagonist’s secret.
Tong Sui slept for quite some time, but suddenly woke up, bolting upright. When he noticed that Bai Xingluo was still sitting at the foot of the bed, he sighed in relief and wiped his face.
“Luoluo, I’m sorry, I couldn’t help but fall asleep.”
“You’ve only been asleep for three hours. If you’re tired, you can continue sleeping.”
“I’m not going to sleep anymore.”
He felt he had already slept enough. Tong Sui got up to wash his face.
Suddenly the system spoke up: [The task target in this world has sensed my presence.]
“Ah?” Tong Sui was taken aback, his mind blank for a few seconds before he awkwardly said, “Does that mean he knows your identity?”
System: [Host, you’re underestimating me. When I felt his approach, I activated my defensive mechanism, so he does not know what I am.]
Tong Sui felt a wave of relief, but at the same time, he had to confront the question he had deliberately ignored. If Luoluo knew that his initial help was for a task, how would he feel? Would he consider it a deception and betrayal?
Tong Sui said, “I don’t want to deceive him. I feel it’s necessary to tell him the truth.”
If Bai Xingluo found it unacceptable, he would try to think of another way.
The system raised its volume: [Have you not woken up? Do you know what you’re saying? Have you been charmed by the task target so quickly that you’ve abandoned your principles? Can your identity be easily exposed?]
If it got out, he might be treated as a research subject. Tong Sui understood the risk but felt that if he didn’t say something, he would come across as a scoundrel deceiving someone into marriage.
While he was pondering, a sudden flash of fire lit up outside the window—a loud explosion erupted, setting the dark sky ablaze.
A sharp alarm sounded.
Tong Sui leaned against the wall, “What’s happening?”
System: [The plot trajectory has changed. The space pirates altered their attack plan and timing. They are coming for you.]
[You better run quickly; if they catch you, I can’t guarantee what will happen.]
In the darkness, countless military women charged forward. They seemed unaffected by their injuries, their wings like sharp knives poised against their enemies’ throats.
“I’m not running.”
Although Tong Sui felt a chill in his palms, he gripped tightly and stepped out to hold Bai Xingluo’s hand.
“Let’s go, power up the mecha.”
Space pirates excelled at night raids.
Yu Guangji piloted the modified mecha, nimble and light as he maneuvered through attacks. However, he did not expect that these injured military women would still possess such vitality.
He momentarily lost focus, and cannon fire grazed by him, exploding behind.
Yu Guangji chuckled, biting down on the lollipop in his mouth, using the built-in voice system to relay commands to other space pirates.
“Quick combat, decisive action, but I want that male insect alive, don’t allow any harm.”
“Understood!”
Just as they intensified their onslaught, they suddenly spotted a moving white shape, exceptionally evident against the night.
The space pirates taunted loudly:
“Hahahahaha! Is the empire really that desperate? Why release this thing again?”
“This time, we must turn this target into scrap metal!”
As the taunting voices faded, the slowly moving mecha disappeared in an instant, only to reappear just inches away.
“Boom!!”
The space pirates, previously laughing, were reduced to nothingness, watching in horror as their sturdy starship crumpled like a piece of wrinkled paper.
“What’s going on?!”
“Help! This thing is too fast!”
Yu Guangji’s ever-playful demeanor vanished.
He frowned as he watched this mecha pierce through his fleet; such a familiar scene had occurred countless times before.
In a daze, he thought of Bai Xingluo, but it was somewhat different from before. Yet Yu Guangji knew he could feel Bai Xingluo’s presence.
In those few seconds, the blizzard had obliterated most of the starships.
In the next moment, the white mecha flashed in front of Yu Guangji.
He saw the metallic arm raise and clench powerfully.
Sitting inside the cockpit, connected via empathy, Yu Guangji also felt the impact, spewing out a mouthful of blood. He exhausted every ounce of strength to crash the mecha downwards.
There was a loud bang.
Yu Guangji’s inner ear experienced immense pressure, causing a wave of dizziness.
Crackling electric sounds followed: “Boss, are you okay?”
“We’ve failed; that white mecha is too powerful, what should we do, boss?”
Yu Guangji covered his chest, struggling to utter two words, “Retreat.”
“Yes.”
As Yu Guangji propped himself up to get up, he noticed another small mecha not far off, moving a few steps back.
This toy mecha was likely meant for those male insects.
Inside it could very well be that male child.
Without thinking, Yu Guangji raised his hand, capturing that mecha, disappearing into the night.
